Pele, the king during his prime
WINDHOEK: Angola has organized something lighter but competitive for the football fans across Africa who are in that country in the interest of the African Nations Cup (AFCON).
Legendary players, Brazil’s Pele and Portugal’s Eusebio will play this Saturday in charity match to raise funds for the development of football academies in that country.
Besides the aging global football idols, the match will also feature other Portuguese speaking stars, Portugal’s Luis Figo, Rui Costa, Brazilian Romario, Ronaldinho, Joao Pinto and Victor Baia among others.
These together with Pele and Eusebio will play against an Angolan side of former greats, Akwa, Loth, Mendinho, Abel Campos, Amaral Aleixo and Paulao, all former Black Panthers.
The match will be free but t-shirts will be sold for 2.500 Kwanza (R200)
“Our goal is to encourage the practice of sports in Angola, of football in particular.
It’s a Nations Cup tournament side-kick which we want to use to pay tribute to Angolan Sport and to those athletes who have put great efforts on bringing the name, the colors and the hymn of our country across the national borders,” read a statement from the official sponsors, Savings and Credits Bank (BPC).
